How to market your ecommerce website

Ecommerce marketing can be a tricky thing, especially when just starting out. So we have put together a short list of some of the most powerful things you can do to get your site ahead of the rest.

You should plan each and every way you intend on reaching out to customers, this way you have your own guide you can adhere to and it keeps you on track to success.

Make a list of all ways you intend to market your store, be meticulous. Plan blog posts, videos, email newsletters, social media, everything!

Keep checking back on this strategy to make sure you are sticking to it, also update it as an when you need. Remove the things that aren't working so well and add more detail and notes to the ones that are.

This is a big one. Email marketing is still one of the most effective ways to get customers over the line to make a purchase. Make sure you plan out your emails in advance.

You should focus on building your newsletter list quickly, and we don't mean by buying emails online - that is a surefire way to getting your emails sent to the spam box. Offer things like discounts to people that sign up for the newsletter to incentivise more people to join!

Don't just use these as a selling tool either, people don't just want products shoved in their face. You should also use it to send helpful info, keep them updated with the business, and to generally keep in touch with your customers.

Make sure you are super active and interacting with lots of people - soon enough you will be getting followers without trying.

#1 rule to social media for business is to make sure you hardly use it for self promotion. Seriously. Post about the market your business is in, and other useful things, 1/8 of your posts should be promotional but no more.

A quick way to gain fans is to use influencer marketing. This is essentially paying social media influencers who are in your target market to post promotional posts about you. It can be costly but you will see the benefits.

This is an easy and cost effective way of marketing your business to the masses, and word of mouth is super powerful.

Do things like competitions to get your customers posting about you on social media. It's also a great way to interact with your customers and have content generated for you!

Having a loyalty program keeps customers coming back to your store and eventually they could end up becoming brand ambassadors.

Set up things like discounts for certain amounts of purchases, a point system to offer discounts, access to new products before everyone else, random free gifts for a nice surprise - just be creative!

Your website should be optimised for mobile viewing, if it isn't you could be missing out on over 50% of your customers!

The site should be just as functional in the mobile format as it is in the desktop mode, and it should be responsive to all screen sizes.

If you need help getting your site into the mobile world then we are here to help!

Product reviews are super powerful. People love that piece of mind knowing someone has purchased the product previously and are happy with it.

Reviews can really help people over the line into making a purchase so make sure you push your customers to leaving them on your site!
